View moreEven when I was in my 20s, and had lots of sexual energy and more erections than I wanted, I still had difficulties getting it up the first time I was with someone. I made a TERRIBLE one-night stand! It was just nerves. I have more than a tad of social anxiety, though most people wouldn't guess by looking at me. I have a lot of pressure inside. So, I would just tell potential partners that I'd love to hang out and cuddle, but it might take a couple of times before I got over my nerves. And for those partners who seemed very relaxed and willing to deal with that, I often got over my nerves in the same evening

Of course, this was dating, not swinging. I knew these women before we ended up in bed and so had developed some trust and rapport. Swinging can be very different. It depends on how you do it. We (my wife and I) are very social people. We like to get to know people first. At least the first date is social only. And typically, we are only going to have sex with people we enjoy hanging out with socially. When we go to new swinger social events, we tend to focus on networking and socializing first. This is a very important and oft-neglected aspect of the swinger lifestyle. I need to feel at least a little connection with someone before my sexual interest picks up. Oh sure, I can look at someone and think "She's hot" but that's not the same things as feeling interested and OPEN to a sexual connection. As I've gotten older, I've found erections don't come as quickly, or stay as long as they used to. And the number of them I can get in an evening has dropped also. For parties where I'm meeting new people, I tend take one of those little pills. Worrying about getting erections causes stress that makes erections more difficult. Taking one of those little pills lessens my worries. I don't feel the need for those pills with long term partners where we've already formed some bonds of affection. Stress and anxiety are the enemies of erections at all ages. For me, focusing on networking and socializing helps a lot. As Rosie mentions, one great way to socialize is focusing on pleasing others without an erection.. As a side note, I've also run into a few women who don't always get their orgasms with new play partners. Sure, some of that is that their new partners don't know all the ways they like it. But some of it is nervousness for them as well. They may be enjoying sex, but don't enjoy feeling pressure to have an orgasm. So, just like us men don't want to feel pressured to get it up on a moment's notice, some women don't want to feel pressured to have an orgasm if they aren't ready to. It's great if you can pay attention to what they like and are ready to do all you can to help them get there, if they are into that. Just be prepared to have a good time and let go of expectations.
